The fifth issue of Hill City’s quarterly magazine marked the one-year anniversary of the brand’s launch. To honor the milestone, the entire issue was concepted and shot in San Francisco, Hill City’s hometown. The magazine served as both a product catalog and an editorial piece, designed to deepen brand connection and highlight the Fall 2019 collection.
The Challenge
Create a print piece that captured the spirit of the brand’s first year—elevated, authentic, and rooted in place—while balancing editorial storytelling with seasonal product features. The project required creative direction from ideation to execution, with particular attention to aligning visual language and production quality with Hill City’s modern, minimalist ethos.
The Solution
Led the project from end to end: developed the creative concept, scouted San Francisco locations, cast talent, and art directed the photoshoot. Designed the entire magazine layout from scratch, establishing visual rhythm, typography, and grid systems. Collaborated with print vendors through press checks to ensure high-quality final output that reflected the premium tone of the brand.
The Result
The Fall 2019 issue became a defining piece of Hill City’s early brand story. It resonated with customers, team members, and retail partners alike—reinforcing the brand’s roots and vision. The magazine’s cohesive storytelling and polished design elevated the perception of Hill City as a thoughtful, design-forward performance brand.
